Life at On Pointe Dance Company

By enrolling at OPDC, students and their guardians agree to abide by all the policies set forth by OPDC, it’s owner, and staff. OPDC reserves the right to terminate any student’s enrollment at any given time for misconduct or inappropriate actions by the student or their guardian.


Our Philosophy

OPDC believes in providing high-quality dance classes that encourages a positive self-image while students increase their physical well-being. We take our role as mentors and teachers very seriously. We are committed to setting a good example for every student and strive to create wonderful memories that will last a lifetime. We promise to be kind, professional role models for your children. Not only is a dance a fun experience, it improves coordination, flexibility, spatial awareness, and allows for self-expression.


For our Parents and Guardians

Some parents may find themselves comparing their child’s progress or class placement to another student’s. Please keep in mind that each student will progress at a different rate, even if they receive the same training. It’s important to encourage your child to focus on their individual goals and accomplishments. We take a lot of information into consideration when deciding where a student should be placed. If you do have a question or concern, please contact our owner, Maija Brown, and not our instructors.

Fees and Tuition

Monthly tuition is due by the 1st day of each month; a late fee of 5% will be charged per day the tuition is late. If you selected automatic withdrawal, payment will be taken out the 1st of each month. Tuition will be paid through whichever method you indicated on your enrollment form. You may also pay semi-annually (twice a year), or annually (a one-time fee at the beginning of the year). If you do pay for the entire year, you will receive a 5% discount! However, the tuition is non-refundable unless discussed with and approved by Maija Brown.


Payment Options Include:

  • Check: Mail to studio or hand to teacher in person

  • Cash: Only do this in person, do not mail cash

  • Automatic withdrawal from your account


Additional Fees:

Monthly tuition does not include dancewear, shoes, costumes, pictures, merchandise, recital tickets, or private lesson fees.



Loyalty Program: For each student enrolled in each class, you will receive 1 point. For example, if you have 1 student enrolled in 2 classes, and another student enrolled in 3 classes, you would receive 5 points. Each point is worth $5.00 and can be used on classes for next year. This is our way of saying "thank you for coming back".


Classes paid in full: When you pay your full year’s tuition up-front, it helps us to cover our costs for the year. To encourage and reward those willing to pay the full year, we offer a 5% discount on the year’s tuition. However, the tuition is non-refundable unless discussed with and approved by Maija Brown.


Dance class tuition tax subtraction/credit: Under the MN State K-12 Education Subtractions and Credits, you are able to subtract/credit your dance class tuition on your MN State Taxes.


Behavior and Discipline

We strive to maintain a safe, welcoming environment for all of our students. We encourage students to respect one another, the staff, and the studio/equipment. Students who exhibit unacceptable behavior will be verbally directed to a positive alternative behavior. If the problem persists, their parent or guardian will be informed and further action may take place.


While we work with every student to correct an issue, consistent misbehavior may result in the termination of enrollment. These negative behaviors may include, but are not limited to:

  • Disruptive or dangerous behavior

  • Abuse of other students, staff, or property


This has never been an issue with any of our students, it is merely a precaution to keep you informed.


Class Size and Composition

We are able to alter class sizes to meet any number of students. Classes may need to be merged or broken out depending on the number of students, level of experience or skills, and other variables. Parents will be notified well in advance if a class will be dropped, merged, or created. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact Maija Brown directly, not the instructors.

Dress Code

Jewelry, watches, etc. are not allowed in class

Dane shoes should never be worn outside

Please leave street shoes in the entryway, never wear them on the dance floor


Appropriate clothing includes:

  • Comfortable clothing that allows for ample movement but does not get in the way

  • Nothing offensive or revealing


Arrival and Departure

Students need to be dressed and ready to go for their classes when they start. In order to facilitate this, please drop your child off 10 minutes before their class. When a student is late, they miss out on important information and disrupt the class.


Students are welcome to wait in the entryway before and after their classes, as long as they are quiet and considerate of the other dancers. Please do not take advantage of this. We want to offer a safe place for our dancers, but we do not monitor that area.


We ask that students under the age of 10, wait for their parent or guardian to come to the studio to exit the entryway. We want to ensure the safety of our student the entire time they are in our care. We do not want students playing out on the sidewalk or in the street while they wait for their ride. Please use extra caution when pickup up or dropping off your child. There are other parents doing the same and we want to keep our students as safe as possible.



If your child will be absent, please notify their teacher ahead of time. We understand that things come up, students become ill, etc. It is helpful for us to plan ahead and to know that your child is accounted for.



To help protect your child and other students, please help us minimize the risk of spreading illness by keeping your child home if you observe any of the following symptoms:

  • Nasal discharge that is green or yellow

  • Complains of ear pain

  • Severe sore throat

  • Eyes that are pink, burning, itching, or producing discharge

  • Diarrhea or vomiting

  • Fever


Weather Cancellations

Cancellations due to weather conditions will be announced by noon on that day to allow for planning time. Notifications of weather cancellations will be emailed, posted on the website, and posted on the Facebook page as well.


Makeup Classes

Classes that are canceled due to weather conditions will be made up at a later date. Notification of makeup classes will be emailed out, posted on the website, and posted on our Facebook page.


Lost & Found

In order to minimize lost items, please mark all you child’s dancewear, shoes, and personal items with their name. We will make every effort to locate and return lost items; however, we cannot be responsible for any items that your child brings to class.


Emergency Evacuation

While we’ve never experienced this situation, we do have a plan in place for any emergency situation.


Social Media

We ask that all students and parents understand they do not have permission to share any information that may compromise OPDC. This includes sharing any personal information about the staff, other students, or their families. You also don’t have permission to claim or imply that you are speaking on behalf of OPDC. Please never post anything that could compromise the self-esteem of any student who attends OPDC. Please do not post any videos of the full rehearsal or recital on social media. Respect the law, including those governing defamation, discrimination, harassment, and copyright and fair use. If you have a negative comment or issue, please contact Maija Brown.


General Policies

No food or drink is allowed in the studio, please leave it in the entryway.

Parents and students should never interrupt a class in session.

No cell phones or computers may be used during class time.



Class pictures usually take place the first or second week in March. Dates and times will be announced in September. We have a local professional photographer come into the studio to take the pictures. We will have a form available, so you can order different photo items. You are not required to purchase anything; however, your child must be present in full hair, makeup, and costume for the class picture.


Annual Recital

All our students participate in our annual recital which is held in the PAC of the Blue Earth Area High School. The students work hard all year and the recital is their chance to show their friends and family what they have been working on. Although we strongly encourage every child to participate in the recital, it is not required. We will assume your child will be participating in the recital unless given notification by November 1st. All students must participate in the dress rehearsal in order to perform in the recital. There are no exceptions to this policy. Recital information will be posted on the website and emailed out.

Tickets for the recital cost $10 per person. Parents that volunteer to help will receive a free ticket for the show they aren’t working.
